Amul

Anand Milk Union Limited or Amul is an Indian dairy cooperative, based at Anand in the state of Gujarat, India. Formed in 1948, it is a brand managed by a cooperative body, the Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd. (GCMMF), which today is jointly owned by millions of milk producers in Gujarat.

In 1970, through Operation Flood – a project of India’s National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) – Amul spurred India’s White Revolution, which transformed India from a milk-deficient country to subsequently the world’s largest producer of milk and milk products. It helps millions of farmers sell milk directly to GCMMF and become self-sufficient.

Amul represents high-quality products at value prices, exemplary marketing, indigenous technology and a model for dairy development. It is a household name not only in India but also in the UAE where about two million Indians are resident.
